Project: 316_Philipspavilion

An international symposium on the intended reconstruction of the  
Philips Pavilion, built in 1958, is scheduled to take place on June  
18, 2006, in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The Philips Pavilion was  
designed by Le Corbusier and Yannis Xenakis for the 1958 World  
exhibition in Brussels. This striking building was constructed of  
prefab concrete panels, prestressed by steel span wires.

The Alice Foundation has initiated a project for the reconstruction  
of the pavilion, this time as a landmark near the entrance of Strijp  
S, the former Philips site in Eindhoven that will be redeveloped into  
a living and working area. The Alice Foundation invited us to conduct  
a historical building research on the pavilion, that was done in  
cooperation with Sven Sterken (Brussels). In addition we have, in  
cooperation with ABT adviseurs in bouwtechniek en Van Hooft  
Adviesburo, conducted a research on the possibilities of  
reconstructing the pavilion, and how this could be done within the  
current regulations. During the symposium the state of affairs of  
both research components will be explained, as well as the further  
backgrounds of the project (see programme).
